Lingle releases $384,000 for improvements to libraries

HONOLULU – Gov. Linda Lingle has released $384,086 for improvements to public libraries on Maui, the Big Island and O'ahu.

iMakawao Public Library – Maui

The Department of Accounting and General Services, working with the Hawai'i State Public Library System, will use $170,000 to re-roof the Makawao Public Library to prevent leaks and water damage. In 2006, Lingle released $31,000 for the project design. The existing roof is about 15 years old and has undergone extensive patching to address leaks.

iThelma Parker Memorial Public Library – Big Island

$140,000 will be used to improve sidewalks, ramps, restrooms, parking and doorways to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.  $46,000 was previously released for the project design. The funds will also be used to make repairs to plumbing and electrical work, fire and security alarms, sewer, water and drainage systems.

i'Ewa Beach Public and School Library – O'ahu

$74,086 will be used to make emergency repairs to the air conditioning system at the 'Ewa Beach Public and School Library.
