Man suffers head injury in Kona diving accident

A man was pulled unconscious from the water at Kainaliu Beach in Kona and transported by helicopter to Kona Community Hospital, according to a Big Island Fire Department report filed by acting captain Justin Yamamoto.The condition of the man is unknown.
According to Yamamoto, firefighters from the Kona station responded to the beach at 10:34 a.m., and found bystanders providing basic first aid on the victim, who had severe head injuries.
It appears the victim struck his head on the shallow bottom while diving, said Yamamoto.
