Road closures in Waimea next week for rock removal

Advertiser Staff

Intermittent lane and full road closures along Kamehameha Highway at Waimea Bay are expected to start beginning July 9 as crews remove loose material from the hillside overlooking the highway.

Contractor Goodfellow Brothers Inc. will raise a temporary protective netting to contain the falling rocks that crews loosen, according to a news release issued by the state Department of Transportation.

The work is expected to last until July 17 and closures are expected on July 9, July 11-14 and July 16 and 17.

Officials decided the $151,000 project was necessary after a recent inspection.
