PBS Hawaii's most popular local program, "Na Mele: Traditions in

Hawaiian Song," featuring beloved Hawai'i musical artists, is

getting an earlier start in the workweek, filling Monday evenings with song.

The show is moving from its Thursday slot in the TV lineup, to

air every Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Today's "Na Mele" features Darlene Ahuna and the late

Kawai Cockett

Replacing "Na Mele" on Thursday nights will be a revamped, live

hour-long, call-in "Island Insights" public affairs show starting at 7:30 p.m.

"PBS Hawaii is fully committed to capturing and preserving

traditional Hawaiian music as performed by the islands' musical

treasures," said Leslie Wilcox, president and CEO of PBS Hawaii, in a statement.

"Our precious "Na Mele" archive includes the music of Genoa Keawe, Led Ka'apana, Dennis Kamakahi, Emma Veary, Bill Kaiwa, Keola Beamer, Martin Pahinui, Nina Keali'iwahamana, Iwalani Kahalewai, Robert Cazimero,

Jerry Santos, and many other talented Hawaii artists."
