Former Rainbow Wahine Sanders released by Detroit

Advertiser Staff

The Detroit Shock of the WNBA waived former University of Hawai'i player Amy Sanders today.

Sanders, a rookie guard who joined the team in training camp, averaged 1.5 minutes in six games. She totaled just two points — hitting one free throw in two separate games — two rebounds and two turnovers.

Coach Bill Laimbeer told the Detroit Free Press "we're still searching" for a player to fill Sanders' spot.

Sanders completed her eligibility at UH in 2006. She became the second Rainbow Wahine to make a WNBA roster. Judy Mosley-McAfee played for Los Angeles and Sacramento in 1997.
