City adds buses for Ala Moana fireworks event

Advertiser Staff

To accommodate the large crowds expected to turn out for Wednesday's 16th annual Fourth of July fireworks event at Ala Moana Beach, the city will add extra buses on routes serving the area.

Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule. Eleven additional buses will be put into service following the 20-minute fireworks display, which starts at 8:30 p.m.

Six of the buses will serve Leeward- and Windward-bound routes, which include Route C (Kapolei/Makaha), Route 19 ('A'ala Park), Route 40 (Makaha), Route 42 ('Ewa Beach), Route 57 (Waimanalo), and Route 62 (Wahiawa).

Passengers should board these buses at the Ala Moana Boulevard stop 6, which is on the makai side of the shopping mall.

The other five buses, which will take Route 8, will pick up Waikiki-bound passengers at the Ala Moana Boulevard bus stop 9, which is located on the mauka side of Ala Moana Beach Park, closest to Atkinson Drive.

City transit officials are warning passengers to expect delays because of pedestrian and vehicle traffic following the fireworks show.

More than 200,000 people are expected to attend the show.

Information and route schedules are available at www.thebus.org or 848-5555.
