The Independence Day Paddleboard Race, featuring contestants of all ages, will start at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sunset Beach and finish at Waimea Bay.

Males and females ages 8 to mid-70s are expected to make the 3.5-mile race, which includes a tandem and stand-up division. Late entrants can apply on race day from 8:30 a.m. The cost is $30 for solo and $40 for tandem.

This year the Waimea Bay lifeguards will host a keiki competition for ages 5 to 12. The free event has three parts: a run, a swim and a paddling segment. Parents must sign a waiver.
