MLB: Bucky Dent out as Reds bench coach

Advertiser Staff

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds replaced bench coach Bucky Dent with minor league manager Pat Kelly.

Dent, who had been with the Reds since 2005, was removed after the Sunday firing of manager Jerry Narron. The two had been teammates with the New York Yankees and previously coached together with the Texas Rangers.

Kelly was manager of the Reds' rookie Gulf Coast League affiliate and director of the organization's Florida on-field operations. He's spent 20 seasons managing in the minor leagues, and also worked as a minor league pitching coach. He was a scout for the Atlanta Braves last year.

The Reds, who replaced Narron with advance scout Pete Mackanin, also said today that outfield instructor Ed Napoleon has resigned.
