Kahuku Hospital management deal signed

Advertiser Staff

Kahuku Hospital and the state have taken the first step that would bring the North Shore health facility into the state hospital system.

Under a short-term management contract, the Hawai'i Health Systems Corp. agreed to administer the 25-bed hospital starting July 1 while it obtains the licenses needed to take ownership of the facility.

The state Department of Health will facilitate the transition.

Kahuku Hospital, serves more than 20,000 North Shore and Windward O'ahu residents. It opened as a plantation hospital in 1928 and for years have suffered financial losses as costs rose and reimbursements declined.
