Soccer: Beckham, L.A. Galaxy to play in Australia

Associated Press

SYDNEY, Australia — English soccer star David Beckham will make his first visit to Australia when the Los Angeles Galaxy play an exhibition match at Sydney FC on Nov. 27.

Football Federation Australia and the MLS team said today that the match will be Beckham's first for the Galaxy outside North America. Beckham is expected to join the Los Angeles team in mid-July after transferring from Real Madrid.

FFA chief executive Ben Buckley said the Galaxy promised Beckham would play in the match, or that the match would be rescheduled if the former England captain was injured or unavailable.

"We've got certain guarantees in place that he will be playing," Buckley said. "If David happens to get injured or feels ill, the match can be postponed to a later date."

The match will be played at Sydney's 80,000-seat Telstra Stadium.
