An 11-year-old girl struck by a car today at Pi'ikoi and Pensacola streets was transported to The Queen's Medical Center with an apparent leg injury.

Witnesses told police the girl was running on the sidewalk fronting a cemetery on Pensacola Street when she suddenly darted into the crosswalk at the intersection with Pi'ikoi Street.

The Toyota sedan, which was not speeding, according to witnesses, was already on the crosswalk when it struck the child at about 2 p.m.

Emergency Medical Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic said the girl was in serious but stable condition when taken to the hospital.

No other injuries were reported.
