Kim, Kaneko tied for 11th in Rolex golf

Hawai'i's Kimberly Kim and Ayaka Kaneko each shot 3-over-par 74 yesterday and were tied for 11th after the first round of the Rolex Tournament of Champions at Columbus, Ohio.

Kim, a former Big Island resident who now lives most of the year in Arizona, had two birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey in her 38-36 round at the 6,188-yard Ohio State University Golf Club's Scarlet Course.

Kaneko, a Sacred Hearts Academy student, had three birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey in her 39-35 round.

Kristen Park, of Buena Park, Calif., leads the girls division of the American Junior Golf Association's flagship tournament after opening with a 3-under 68.

Park had four birdies and one bogey in her 35-33 round for a four-stroke lead over three golfers.

"Everything was working well for me today," Park said on the AJGA Web site. "I hit almost every fairway and I was hitting the greens well."

Nick Delio, of Valencia, Calif., Alex Shi Yup Kim, of Fullerton, Calif., and Jonathan Randolph, of Brandon, Miss., share a one-stroke lead in the the boys division after shooting 1-under 70.

The 143-player field in the two divisions features golfers from 31 states and seven countries.
