MLB: A's recall former Kalani star Komine

Associated Press

Oakland recalled right-hander Shane Komine from Triple-A Sacramento before the Athletics' game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Komine, the Kalani High alum who was scheduled to start for the RiverCats, was with the A's for a few days in June but did not make an appearance. He made two starts for the A's last year.

"We need pitching," A's manager Bob Geren said of the move. Geren also indicated Komine would assume the long relief role.

To make room for Komine, the A's optioned left-hander Ron Flores to Sacramento.

The A's have five pitchers on the disabled list: right-hander Justin Duchscherer, who is out for the season with a right hip strain; closer Huston Street (irritated elbow nerve); right-hand set-up man Kiko Calero (sore right shoulder); right-hander Connor Robertson (fractured right thumb); and right-hander Esteban Loaiza (spasms in right trapezius).

Komine is 3-9 with a 5.38 ERA in 16 starts with the RiverCats.
