Tantalus-area state park to close early tomorrow

Advertiser Staff

The Department of Land and Natural Resources will close Pu'u 'Ualaka'a State Park (Tantalus) early tomorrow to reduce the chances of fire spreading from illegal fireworks.

The park will close at 4 p.m.

"Use of fireworks in state parks and forest reserves is illegal," said Allan Smith, Department of Land and Natural Resources interim chairman in a news release issued today.

"Our forests and coastlines are natural resources that need to be protected by the public so we can enjoy their beauty for generations. As we celebrate our national freedom, let us also be good citizens who respect our land and waters."

The park will reopen at 7 a.m. Thursday and return to its normal summer closing time of 7 p.m.
