Waikoloa man, 22, charged in shopping-center shooting

Big Island police today charged a 22-year-old man in connection with a shooting incident early Saturday at a Waikoloa Village shopping center.

Christopher Copp, 22, of Waikoloa Village,was charged with a firearm offense and reckless endangering. He is being held at the Kona police cellblock in lieu of $2,500 bail pending his initial court appearance.

Detectives determined that prior to the shooting, an affray broke out in the parking lot of the complex and Copp allegedly brandished a rifle and fired several shots into the air. No one was injured in the shooting.

A loaded rifle was recovered in a search warrant from a vehicle parked at the scene.
