Weather service urges 'extreme caution' with fireworks
Advertiser Staff
The National Weather Service in Honolulu is urging those who plan to use fireworks today to exhibit caution since many areas continue to suffer from a prolonged dry spell.
Trade winds are expected to bring some showers to windward and mauka areas this week, but central and leeward areas remain especially dry, according to the weather service. Some windward areas are also quite parched.
The combination of dry vegetation and moderate trade winds increases the risk for brush fires. Because of this, those using fireworks should be especially careful. Stray fireworks can easily ignite dry grass and trade winds could spread fires rapidly.
