An early-morning fire today that investigators suspect started in the living room destroyed a home at 1042 Maunawili Loop.

Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said the fire, reported at 2:38 a.m., caused an estimated $500,000 damage to the structure and $50,000 to contents.

Cause of the fire is under investigation.

Two women, 86 and 49, escaped with minor injuries. They were taken to Castle Medical Center and later released.

Five engine and two ladder companies fought the blaze, which was reported under control at 3:11 a.m.
