Early morning blaze destroys Maunawili home

Advertiser Staff

A one-story home in Kailua was destroyed by fire early this morning, leaving at least two people homeless.

About 30 firefighters fought the 2:38 a.m. fire at 1042 Maunawili Loop, said fire Capt. Terry Seelig. The blaze was put under control at 3:11 a.m. but by that time the home was completely destroyed, Seelig said.

Two women, ages 86 and 49, who were home at the time sustained minor injuries. They were treated at the scene and then taken to Castle Medical Center in stable condition, Seelig said.

An investigator was on the scene but no cause has yet been determined, nor was there a damage estimate, Seelig said.

The house was about 50 years old, he said.
