POLICE BEAT
Officers use Taser in arrest at restaurant

Advertiser Staff

A 41-year-old man was arrested last night after he allegedly waved two knives around outside a Kalihi restaurant.

Police were called to the restaurant at 1620 N. School St. about 10:20 p.m. and found the man had moved to a table inside the restaurant.

When two officers approached the man, he put his hands in his pockets and attempted to leave the restaurant, police said.

The man refused orders to stop and to remove his hands from his pockets, police said.

When the man neared the exit, he reportedly pulled two box cutter-type knives from his pocket and slashed in the direction of a police sergeant arriving at the restaurant to assist the two patrol officers at the scene, police said.

At that point, one of the patrol officers used a Taser to disable the man. Police said he fell to the floor and, in the process, cut himself on the forearm with one of the knives, police said.

The man was hit with a second Taser charge while on the floor after he continued to resist arrest and refused to drop the knives.

After the second jolt, police were able to move in and arrest the Kalihi man on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.
