Advertiser Staff

A traffic accident in 'Ewa Beach knocked down a utility pole early this morning, causing police to close Papipi Road between Aikanaka Road and Kapolei Parkway.

A 17-yer-old girl driving a car which overturned during the crash was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city's Emergency Services Department.

Firefighters had to extricate the girl from the car after it took out a fire hydrant and collided with two other parked vehicles, Cheplic said.

The collision was reported just before 1 a.m.

A Hawaiian Electric Co. pole was hit in the collision, which also caused anther object to fall onto a power line, said HECO spokesman Darren Pai.

HECO crews were making repairs this morning, Pai said, but 10 customers remained without power just before 6 a.m.
