KAILUA
Morning blaze destroys home

Advertiser Staff

A one-story home in Kailua was destroyed by fire early yesterday, leaving at least two people homeless.

About 30 firefighters fought the 2:38 a.m. house fire in the 1000 block of Maunawili Loop, said Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig. The blaze was under control at 3:11 a.m., but not before the home was destroyed, Seelig said.

Two women, ages 86 and 49, who were home at the time sustained minor injuries. They were treated at the scene and taken to Castle Medical Center in stable condition, Seelig said.

No cause was determined yesterday, Seelig said. Damage to the structure was estimated at $500,000 and $50,000 for the contents.
