MLB: Twins' Morneau hits 3 homers against White Sox

Associated Press

CHICAGO — Justin Morneau hit three home runs Friday night in the second game of a doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox, becoming the fourth Minnesota Twins player to accomplish the feat.

The 2006 AL MVP hit a three-run drive in the first inning, a solo shot in the third and a two-run homer in the seventh. He came to bat in the eighth with a chance to tie the major league record of four homers in a game, but flied out to left field.

Bob Allison, Harmon Killebrew and Tony Oliva are the other Twins to hit three homers in one game.

Morneau became the fourth big league player to connect three times in a game this season, joining Houston's Carlos Lee (April 13), the Chicago Cubs' Alfonso Soriano (June 8) and Texas' Brad Wilkerson (July 3).
