Autos: Rains postpone NASCAR Busch race in Florida

Associated Press

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.— Rain washed out tonight's Busch Series race at Daytona International Speedway, and NASCAR rescheduled the event for tomorrow morning.

The race will begin at 9 a.m. EDT and create a day-night doubleheader of racing at NASCAR's premier track. The Nextel Cup event is scheduled for 8 p.m.

It could make for a very long day — and 650 miles of racing — for the 20 drivers who were entered in both events. Among those who are scheduled to run both races are two-time defending Pepsi 400 champion Tony Stewart, defending Busch race winner Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Daytona 500 winner Kevin Harvick.

NASCAR faced a similar situation at Charlotte in 2003, when the Busch race was rescheduled for the afternoon before the Cup race — creating 800 miles of racing. Greg Biffle won the Busch race, Stewart won the Cup event and 10 drivers did double-duty. Matt Kenseth pulled out of the Busch race.
