Water conservation urged on Leeward Coast

Advertiser Staff

The Board of Water Supply says repairs have been completed on a leaky 24-inch water main on Farrington Highway, between Laaloa and Waiomea Street.

BWS is asking for continued water conservation by residents throughout today, to allow the area water system to recover after being strained by yesterday's repair work.

The repaired main was put back on-line at about 4:15 a.m. today. BWS crews worked all day yesterday and into the night to fix the leaking main.

The road is open in the area. No customers were without water during the repair.

The BWS is asking Leeward Coast residents from Honokai Hale to Makaha to use water for essential needs only — drinking, cooking, and personal hygiene — and postpone other activities such as plant irrigation, laundry, and car washing.

The main, which was installed in 1961, supplies an average of about 60 percent of the water for the Leeward Coast.
