Refresh life force at chinowa ritual

Advertiser Staff

All are invited to participate in the Japanese chinowa rejuvenation ritual from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Hawaii Kotohira Jinsha — Hawaii Dazaifu Tenmangu, 1239 Olomea St. in Kalihi.

The traditional chinowa is a large ring made of reeds; at today's event the ring has an Island touch, crafted with ti leaves. Participants step through the chinowa to replenish their physical, emotional and spiritual life force for the rest of the year.

The event is free, and there's free parking at nearby Damien Memorial High School, where a shuttle will take attendees to and from the temple. 841-4755.
