Police suspect a Wai'anae man arrested for questioning in Saturday's fatal hit-and-run accident on Farrington Highway in Makaha was driving under the influence.

Victor Lawrence Goodson, 22, was arrested at his home at 6:40 a.m. Saturday, about an hour and 15 minutes after a 39-year-old woman bicyclist was struck by a 2006 Honda Pilot, which fled.

The bicyclist, identified by the medical examiner's office today as Correena Medeiros, was pronounced dead at the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center.

Goodson was booked at the Kapolei police station on suspicion of first-degree negligent homicide, failure to render aid and operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant.

He was transferred to the main station police cellblock and about 8 a.m. and released pending further investigation for likely indictment at a later date at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Medeiros' death was O'ahu's 39th traffic fatality of the year and third since Thursday. There were 51 deaths by this day in 2006.
