Rowing: Harvard, Cal win at Henley regatta

Associated Press

HENLEY-ON-THAMES, England — Crews from Harvard and Cal-Berkeley were among the winners today at the Henley Royal Regatta.

Harvard captured the Ladies Plate for elite eights by a length over a composite crew from England's Molesey Boat Club and the New York Athletic Club. The composite crew contended that Harvard impeded its progress early in the race, but the appeal was rejected.

In the Temple Cup final for student eights, Cal-Berkeley defeated Cornell by 1 1/2 lengths.

In the Princess Royal Cup final for international women scullers, Michelle Guerette from the Radcliffe crew from Cambridge, Mass., defeated Jenny Goldsack from England's Wallingford Club.
