Soccer: Ching's goal lifts Houston over D.C. United, 1-0

Associated Press

HOUSTON — Brian Ching scored in the first half and the Houston Dynamo earned their fifth straight shutout in a 1-0 victory over D.C. United today.

The win enabled Houston to tie FC Dallas for first in the Western Conference.

The Dynamo (9-5-2) are unbeaten in eight games and haven't allowed a goal since beating Columbus 2-1 June 10. D.C. United managed only three shots on goal.

D.C. United (7-5-2) remains tied with New England for first in the Eastern Conference.

Ching, a Kamehameha Schools alum, scored in the 33rd minute. The play started on a corner kick by Stuart Holden that was deflected away from the goal by the United. Dynamo midfielder Richard Mulrooney tapped it back out to Ching, who kicked it in from 22 yards.
