Hawaii Superferry to offer free tours Saturday

Advertiser Staff

Hawaii Superferry will offer free community preview tours on board the Alakai for O'ahu residents on Saturday.

Residents will have a chance to tour the vehicle and passenger decks of the new interisland ferry scheduled to begin service later this summer from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. while the vessel is docked at the Honolulu Ferry Terminal at Pier 19.

Officials will show off the new vessel, promising "spectacular panoramic views and comfortable seating options" that will be available at a date that has yet to be announced. Guests are encouraged to bring their cameras.

Hawaii Superferry President and Chief Executive Officer John Garibaldi said the company wants to welcome people aboard in a preview."We are deeply grateful to the community for their support and commitment over the years," he said.

Because of harbor security, those who want to attend must register in advance. Registrations will be collected online through a joint promotional program with the Clear Channel Radiogroup. Those interested in attending are invited to sign up through one of the five Clear Channel Web sites: KSSK AM590 FM92.3 at ksskradio.com; Island 98.5FM at ir985.com; Star 101.9FM at star1019.com; Hot 93.9FM at i-94.net; KHVH News Radio 830AM at khvh830am.com.

Officials said space is limited for the preview and that registration will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Those who sign up must provide the names of all persons in their party upon registration and changes or additions will not be permitted on the day of the event.

To ease traffic flow and security procedures, a free shuttle service will be provided on the day of the event from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. every 15 minutes from parking locations at Harbor Square and Topa Financial Center Towers in downtown Honolulu. No parking will be available at the Honolulu Ferry Terminal at Pier 19.

Adults (18 years and older) will be required to show a government-issued picture ID (such as a driver's license or passport). Those under 18 years without ID must be accompanied by an adult.

More free community preview events will be held on Maui, Kaua'i and the island of Hawaii. Dates and registration details will be announced for each community preview soon.

Hawaii Superferry interisland ferry service will be offered daily between Maui and O'ahu and six days a week (Sunday - Friday) between Kaua'i andO'ahu. For reservations www.HawaiiSuperferry.com or call 877-HI-FERRY (877-443-3779) between6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Hawai'i time.
