Grants available to fight meth, tobacco use

The first of several meetings for nonprofit organizations interested in applying for grants for tobacco prevention and cessation will be held today in Hilo on the Big Island.

The informational meeting will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the County of Hawaii Aupuni Room (101 Aupuni St.). West Hawaii Island nonprofits can attend a meeting tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Hale Kui Plaza, #207 in Kailua, Kona.

The Hawaii Community Foundation is hosting the meetings throughout the state. The grants are from the Hawaii Tobacco & Control Trust Fund, and also through the Crystal Meth Initiative. All meetings are free and open to the public.

Other meetings:

  • West O'ahu: Wednesday, 8 a.m. to noon, Kapolei High School, Teacher Dining Room

  • East O'ahu: Thursday, noon to 4 p.m., University of Hawai'i at Manoa, Campus Center Room 307

  • Kaua'i: Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., County of Kauai, Moikeha Building, 2A & 2B.

  • Maui: Monday, July 16, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., J.W. Cameron Center Auditorium.

    Participants from Lana'i and Moloka'i can attend meetings on other islands of their choice and receive financial assistance, a news release stated.
