Stranded hikers airlifted off ridge above Pali Lookout

Advertiser Staff

A Honolulu Fire Department helicopter today brought down an injured hiker and companion who were stranded on a ridge above the Pali Lookout.

The first hiker was dropped off the Pali Golf Course at 4:15 p.m., HFDD spokesman Capt. Frank Johnson said.

Emergency Medical Services personnel were standing by at the golf course but both hikers refused treatment, EMS spokesman Bryan Cheplic said.

Johnson said the pair were with two other hikers and none of them had a cell phone to call for help when one of them slipped and suffered an injury.

Two people hiked out and then called 911.

A Rescue One unit and firefighters from the Olomana and Kane'ohe stations responded at 3:15 p.m.
