Advertiser Staff
Plans to begin construction of Hawai'i's first ethanol production facility have been pushed back until late this year or early next year.Gay & Robinson Ag-Energy LLC was planning to begin construction this summer on Kaua'i, which already was more than year behind schedule. However, construction has been pushed back because of delays in acquiring construction permits and ethanol manufacturing equipment, said William Maloney, president of Pacific West Energy LLC, which is partnering with sugarcane company Gay & Robinson on the project.
Production of ethanol now isn't expected to occur until early 2009.
