ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Los Angeles Angels today requested unconditional release waivers on right-hander Hector Carrasco, who was designated for assignment last week.

The club also announced that infielder-designated hitter Shea Hillenbrand was given his release after clearing unconditional release waivers.

The 37-year-old Carrasco was 2-1 with a 6.57 ERA in 29 appearances spanning 38 1-3 innings.

Los Angeles signed him as a free agent on Dec. 2, 2005. He was one of their most effective relievers last season, going 7-3 with a 3.41 ERA in 56 games.

Carrasco has a 44-50 career record with 19 saves while pitching for seven different major league teams.

The 31-year-old Hillenbrand, who batted .254 with three homers and 22 RBIs in 53 games with the Angels, was placed on waivers on Monday after being designated for assignment June 29.
