A 22-year-old man was indicted by an O'ahu grand jury today on a charge of murdering his cousin at an 'Ewa Beach townhouse on July 4.

Tyler Aaron Condon is accused of the stabbing death of Jake Ira Hale, 28, who was found bleeding and calling for help outside the Palm Villas II townhouse on Mikohu Street.

Circuit Judge Derrick Chan approved an increase of Condon's bail from $500,000 to $1 million at the request of city Deputy Prosecutor Vickie Kapp.

Kapp told the judge that Hale's relatives said Condon's father, a California attorney with a "lucrative law practice," would post bail and Hale would flee to the Mainland and hide on a Native American reservation.

Condon and Hale are Native Americans, according to Kapp.

If convicted, Condon would face a mandatory life term with parole.

The indictment sends the case to trial.

Condon is expected to plead not guilty and receive a trial date when he is arraigned later this month.
