Janel Parrish, the Island singer-actress who will make her film debut as Jade in the live-action feature "Bratz: The Movie," has been signed by Geffen Records to record a solo album.

Parrish, 18, who played Young Cosette in the musical "Les Miserables" on Broadway — and in Honolulu — performs "Rainy Day," a song she wrote for the finale of the Lionsgate film, which premieres Aug. 3. The movie was inspired by the tween-popular Bratz fashion dolls.

Geffen, which is releasing the movie soundtrack July 31, will then record Parrish for her eventual CD debut.

Parrish is a former Honolulan who relocated to Burbank at age 14 to pursue a career in films and music.
