Tennis: Volandri, Rochus advance at Swedish Open

BASTAD, Sweden — Filippo Volandri rallied to beat Russian qualifier Yuri Schukin 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 today and reach the quarterfinals at the Swedish Open.Schukin, trying to reach the quarterfinals on the ATP Tour for the first time, led the Italian 4-1 in the opening set, but Volandri got back to 4-all before losing when Schukin broke him in the 10th game.
Volandri then broke Schukin early in the final two sets.
Olivier Rochus of Belgium also advanced, defeating Lukas Dlouhy of the Czech Republic 6-4, 7-5.
Rochus, who came into the clay-court tournament with a nine-match losing streak, has not dropped a set in Bastad. He upset third-seeded Jarkko Nieminen of Finland in the first round.
