'Wife Swap' looking for Hawaii family to star on show

By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Writer

ABC's "Wife Swap," which begins its fourth season this fall, is seeking an Island family with a strong female presence for a possible slot on the unscripted reality show that tests and tempers how folks get along — with a twist.

The family should have "a welcoming aloha spirit and a laid-back approach to life, with an appreciation for beauty of the Islands," said Molly Sebastian, a producer for "Wife Swap," in a statement. For now, a live, in-person interview is not on the agenda.

The premise of the hit show, which has ranked No. 2 in its Monday time slot among adults 18 to 34, pits two families in a 10-day lifestyle challenge, when the wives from each family exchange husbands, children and lives (but not bedrooms) to experience what it's like to live with another matriarch. During half of the week, one mom blends into the lives of the family she is staying with, then implements house rules from her own family. Parenting values, shopping issues and other mundane lifestyle conflicts trigger emotional and humorous results.

Applicant families must comprise of two parents and at least one child aged 6 through 17.

Selected families earn a $20,000 honorarium per episode.

Prospective participants should e-mail Sebastian at molly.sebastian@rdfnewyork.com and mollysebastian@yahoo.com for a follow-up conversation.
