Maui crews monitoring contained Polipoli brushfire

Advertiser Staff

A relatively small brushfire that burned an estimated 1,000 square feet in Maui's Polipoli Forest Reserve yesterday remains 100 percent contained, according to state Department of Land and Natural Resources officials.

The brushfire ignited after 3 p.m. yesterday, near the 7,000-foot elevation mark.

Today's wind conditions at the scene are described as mild.

Eight firefighters from DLNR's Division of Forestry and Wildlife are on scene conducting mop up operations. A county fire crew and water tanker as well as two state fire engines are providing assistance.

The forest reserve access road is expected to reopen after 6 tonight following the deployment of crews.

No injuries are reported and no homes are in immediate danger.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
