Kumu Kahua to kick off season with comic 'Ala Wai'

Kumu Kahua Theater will launch its 37th season with Bryan Hiroshi Wake's "Ala Wai" comedy, playing Aug. 23 through Sept. 23 at the Kumu Kahua Theatre, 46 Merchant St.BullDog, a veteran community and youth theater actor, will direct.
The play deals with two roommates, Bertram and Ernesto, who find themselves jobless and homeless, and the irreverent script is filled with fast-clipped pidgin-English zingers. The murky waters of the Ala Wai Canal is a focus of the play.
Shows will be at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.
Tickets are $13 on Thursdays ($11 for seniors, $5 for students and the unemployed), $16 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays ($13 for seniors, $10 for students).
