Box jellyfish warning remains in effect

Advertiser Staff

The city's Ocean Safety Division box jellyfish advisory will remain in effect after more than 90 people were stung in two days by 997 jellyfish that have washed up on shore.

Waikiki beaches, particularly the shore 'ewa of the Kapahulu groin, are the most affected areas.

Other nearshore waters that may be affected include Hanauma Bay, Poka'i Bay, Makaha Surfing Beach and Waimea Bay.

The city's Ocean Safety Division advises beachgoers, especially those allergic to the marine stings, to stay out of the water.

Anyone who is stung and has difficulty breathing, muscle cramps or spasms or persistent pain should seek immediate medical attention.
