A 56-year-old man suffered a fatal stroke last night at the Honolulu Police Department's main station cellblock, according to police.

The Honolulu medical examiner's office tonight declined to release any information on the man. But police said an autopsy performed today indicated he died of a medical condition.

No foul play is suspected.

The man found unconscious in his cellblock was booked as Charles Darell Carter, according to police records.

Carter, who had no permanent local address, was arrested yesterday at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, 324 Kapahulu Ave., at 8:20 a.m. for first-degree criminal trespass, a misdemeanor, and open lewdness, a petty misdemeanor.

He was later charged with both offenses and was being held at HPD's Central Receiving cellblock pending a District Court appearance today.

Carter was found unresponsive in his cellblock during a check at 10:15 p.m.

According to Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center records, the 5-foot-9, 200-pound Carter had 10 prior convictions.
