The issue of beach access on military-owned land surfaced last week at Iroquois Point. While the military is legally exempt from Hawai'i's law preserving public access to our beaches, that provision was to allow the military to secure its property for defense purposes. But the Iroquois project, a civilian housing project on military land, essentially provides a civilian subdivision with their own private beach.
Working to resolve that issue in Washington is Abercrombie, who argues that public beach access accommodations should be made.
Abercrombie is chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Air and Land Forces. He also is a member of the House Natural Resources Committee and its Fisheries, Wildlife and Oceans Subcommittee.
