Mission will host bon dance

Advertiser Staff

Haleiwa Shingon Mission will host a bon dance from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday on Pa'ala'a Road.

The Obon Festival or Feast of the Dead is a Buddhist tradition brought to Hawai'i by Japanese immigrants to honor their ancestors and to perpetuate filial piety.

The festival includes bon music and dancing, food booths and other activities that are open to the public. The bon dance is from 8 to 10:30 p.m.

The Shingon Mission is just past the Hale'iwa McDonald's restaurant.

Traditional dress is not required. For more information, call the Rev. Taiken Akiyama at 637-4423.
