Couple accused of starving daughter plead not guilty

Advertiser Staff

A couple who allegedly starved their 12-year-old daughter pleaded not guilty this morning to charges of second-degree attempted murder.

Denise M. Wright and her husband, Melvin Wright Jr., both 33, were indicted last week on charges of attempted second-degree murder after their daughter was found malnourished in an apartment earlier this year.

Both are being held in lieu of $100,000 bail and are set to go to trial Sept. 10.

In a hearing this morning in O'ahu Circuit Court, both entered pleas of "not guilty."
