Autos: F1 summons McLaren over Ferrari secrets

Associated Press

PARIS — The McLaren Formula One team has been summoned to appear before the sport's governing body to explain how it came into possession of rival Ferrari's secret design documents.

The FIA's world motor sport council will meet in Paris on July 26 to hear the case that has given a new twist to the F1 title race with the teams dominating this season's driver and manufacturer championships.

McLaren has been charged with having unauthorized possession of documents belonging to Ferrari, including information that could be used to design, engineer, build, check, test, develop and run a 2007 Ferrari F-1 car.

The issue also made it to the High Court in London on Wednesday when McLaren's chief designer, Mike Coughlan, who was suspended by the team last week when documents were found in his house, agreed to tell Ferrari how he got hold of its design secrets.
