Honolulu receives $150,000 Preserve America grant

The City and County of Honolulu today received a $150,000 Preserve America grant for the Chinatown Special Historic District from first lady Laura Bush.Chinatown, which has grown into a hub for culture and arts, became the first site in Hawai'i to receive the designation as a Preserve America Community Neighborhood.
In a news release, Mayor Mufi Hannemann said he was pleased the city received the award, which will aid revitalization projects, in partnership with community organizations.
"The grant will be used to promote the history and culture of Chinatown to visitors and residents and provide a richer experience for visitors, with the goal of providing a more meaningful visit and stimulating more business activity," Hanneman said.
