Kula forest reserve fire under control

Advertiser Staff

The Department of Land and Natural Resources said the small wildfire that burned in the state's Kula Forest Reserve was deemed under control at 4:30 p.m.

Yesterday, eight state firefighters from DLNR's Division of Forestry and Wildlife and two state fire engines were on scene conducting mop up operations. They were being assisted by a county engine company and fire tanker.

The Kula Forest Reserve access road was reopened after 6 last night following the demobilization of fire crews.

State firefighters from DLNR's Division of Forestry and Wildlife will do a patrol of this burn area and remove remaining fire apparatus today.

The wildfire was first reported after 3 p.m. Tuesday near the 7,000 foot elevation.

No injuries were reported and no homes were threatened.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
