Brushfire reported near Lahaina

Advertiser Staff

Maui County firefighters have responded to a brushfire in West Maui.

Fire officials report that the fire is in Lahaina in an area mauka of the Kahoma Stream.

First reported at 5:37 pm, three fire engine crews with one crew trained in wild land fire fighting, two tankers and bulldozers were dispatched to the scene.

The fire was estimated to be one mile long and a half-mile wide as of 9:30 p.m. No homes are threatened and no evacuation orders have been issued, Maui County said.

The fire is north of last month's large brushfire that burned 2,600 acres between Olowalu and Launiupoko and forced the closure of Honoapi'ilani Highway.
