Sailing: Second group starts Transpacific Yacht Race

Advertiser Staff

Boats in the second of three starts in the 44th Transpacific Yacht Race left Point Fermin in San Pedro, Calif., today, in brisk winds of 12 to 14 knots.

A total of 74 boats are entered in the 2,225-nautical mile biennial race from California to Hawai'i. The finish line is off Diamond Head.

The third start featuring the larger, faster boats, including top competitors Pyewacket, Magnitude 80, Rosebud and Morning Light, are scheduled to start Sunday.

The first group of boats reported conditions were improving after a slow start on Monday.
