Hilo Airport to get $1.8 million upgrade

Advertiser Staff

Gov. Linda Lingle has released $1.8 million for the second phase of a project to replace the air-conditioning system at Hilo airport.

The new phase of the project will include replacing secondary systems outside of the airport's chiller plant, which serves public areas. The systems include air units, ventilation fans, duct work and controls.

The three-phase project will replace the entire air-conditioning system, which was installed in 1976. The first phase involved replacement of the entire airport chiller plant, which was completed in 2004. The third phase will include all nonpublic areas.
